The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), Oyo State chapter, has thrown its weight behind Hon. Sheriff Segun Adesina (SSA) as he prepares to contest for a seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ibadan North West State Constituency.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of NANS JCC Oyo State, Abdulazeez Uthman Olawale, and the General Secretary, Ibrahim Oladipupo Ajuwon, the student body described Hon. Adesina as a seasoned unionist whose leadership journey from student activism to mainstream politics is worthy of commendation and support.
The student leaders noted that his decision to step forward for the legislative seat serves as an inspiration to many young leaders who aspire to extend their service to society beyond the confines of campus unionism.
According to the statement, NANS takes pride in seeing former student leaders transition into conventional politics while maintaining the values of service, integrity, and dedication to humanity that define student unionism.
“What inspires us most is witnessing individuals grow beyond student unionism into mainstream politics and excel in various spheres of life. Many of us are driven by the passion to serve humanity beyond unionism, and as a body, the least we can do is stand firmly behind our own,” the statement read.
The association emphasized that its support for Hon. Adesina is rooted in strong confidence in his leadership capacity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to humanitarian service—qualities the NANS leadership said it can boldly attest to.
Reiterating the organization’s long-standing principle of collective progress, the leadership quoted its popular maxim: “None of us is as important as all of us.”
Consequently, the NANS JCC Oyo State leadership formally recommended Hon. Sheriff Segun Adesina to any political party of his choice and to the good people of Ibadan North West State Constituency as a credible and capable candidate.
They further expressed optimism that his competence, character, and compassion would translate into effective and people-oriented representation if given the mandate.
The association concluded that Hon. Adesina’s participation in the electoral process would not only enrich democratic engagement but also contribute positively to quality representation and youth-driven leadership in Oyo State.
