Hon. Rafiu Olayinka Omothoso, a former Councillor and widely recognized consensus candidate for the Ido State Constituency, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State.
Omothoso, a respected grassroots politician from Ido Local Government, cited the lingering internal crisis and unresolved issues rocking the party as major reasons behind his decision to part ways with the PDP.
According to him, the current situation within the party has continued to raise serious concerns among loyal members and stakeholders, describing the development as a disturbing signal capable of affecting the future stability and unity of the party.
The former councillor explained that after careful reflection and extensive consultations with political associates, supporters, and leaders within his constituency, he concluded that it was necessary to step aside from the party.
He noted that although the decision was painful, it became inevitable considering the prevailing atmosphere within the PDP and the increasing uncertainty surrounding the party’s internal structure.
While announcing his resignation, Hon. Omothoso expressed deep appreciation to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for his leadership and support over the years.
He also thanked party leaders, elders, loyalists, and faithful members of the PDP across Ido Local Government and Oyo State for the cooperation, trust, and political relationships built during his time in the party.
“I sincerely appreciate His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, party leaders, stakeholders, and all PDP faithfuls for their support and encouragement over the years. However, the present realities and unresolved internal challenges within the party have made it difficult to continue under the current circumstances,” he stated.
Political observers believe the resignation of Hon. Omothoso may further intensify conversations around the growing concerns and realignments currently unfolding within the political space in Oyo State ahead of future elections.
As a grassroots mobilizer and influential political figure in Ido Local Government, his exit from the PDP is already generating reactions among supporters and political stakeholders within the constituency.
Although he did not disclose his next political move, Omothoso assured his supporters that his commitment to service, development, and the progress of Ido Local Government and Oyo State remains unwavering.
He further urged his followers to remain peaceful, united, and optimistic as consultations regarding the next phase of his political journey continue.
