A factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, has reassured members and supporters that the party remains firmly on course to participate in the 2027 general elections despite ongoing internal challenges.

Speaking on Friday in Abuja during his opening address at the 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of his faction, Turaki emphasized that the leadership is working tirelessly to keep the PDP viable, competitive, and ready for future electoral victories.

He acknowledged the party’s lingering leadership crisis but maintained that hope is not lost. According to him, efforts are ongoing to ensure that the PDP continues to serve as a credible platform for aspirants at all levels ahead of the 2027 polls and beyond.

Turaki stressed that the responsibility placed on the party’s leadership by members is enormous, noting that their primary duty is not only to sustain the party but to position it for electoral success and a return to power at the federal level.

He also revealed that the NEC meeting was deliberately delayed to allow for careful assessment of developments surrounding the party’s internal disputes, including legal proceedings. This, he said, was necessary to properly guide members and strengthen the party as a democratic institution.

On the wave of defections affecting the party, Turaki dismissed fears of collapse, insisting that the PDP remains a strong institution in Nigeria’s democratic space.

According to him, the exit of high-profile figures—including former presidents, vice presidents, and governors—has not diminished the party’s structure or relevance.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, urged members to stay committed as the party awaits the report of a reconciliation committee led by Seyi Makinde.

Wabara described defectors as individuals with weak conviction, expressing optimism that the PDP would ultimately emerge stronger.

Similarly, the PDP House of Representatives Caucus Leader, Fred Agbedi, assured that lawmakers within the party remain resolute and prepared for the political contest ahead.

Chairman of State Chairmen, Tony Azigbemi, speaking on behalf of 28 state chairmen, reaffirmed their loyalty to Turaki’s leadership. He described the internal conflict as a struggle between “light and darkness” and criticized what he termed unilateral decisions by certain individuals within the party.

Despite the turbulence, party leaders maintained a unified message: the PDP remains alive, determined, and ready to reclaim its position in Nigeria’s political landscape.
