The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has stepped down from his position, bringing a new twist to the state’s evolving political landscape.

His spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, confirmed the development on Friday, noting that the resignation had been formally communicated, though he declined to provide details about the reasons behind the decision.

While no official explanation has been given, the resignation comes at a time of rising tension between Gwarzo and the Kano State House of Assembly. In recent days, lawmakers had raised concerns over alleged misconduct and questions surrounding his handling of official duties.

There were also indications that the Assembly was considering disciplinary measures, a move that many observers believed could escalate into a deeper political crisis within the state government.

The development is unfolding alongside major political shifts in Kano, particularly following the recent defection of Governor Abba Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress. The move has triggered a wave of changes within the administration.

In a bid to realign his government, the governor has taken several decisive steps, including the removal of the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, and the dismissal of the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Wada Sagagi.

Political analysts believe these actions point to a broader effort by the administration to consolidate power and restructure governance in line with its new political direction.

Although details surrounding the allegations against Gwarzo remain unclear, sources within the Assembly suggest the matter was already under legislative review before his resignation.

With his exit, attention now shifts to the constitutional process of appointing a new deputy governor, subject to approval by the state Assembly.

Observers say the resignation could further reshape Kano’s political dynamics, especially as alignments continue to shift ahead of future elections.
