Oyo 2027: APC Calculations Tilt Toward Gbadegesin as PDP Stakeholders Consider Adeoye in Oke-Ogun Power Shift

A significant political shift may have just been settled in the corridors of power within the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as the inner circles of Aso Rock.

With Oyo’s 2027 governorship race heating up, strong sources reveal that key players in both the presidency and the APC are involved in a high-stakes negotiation that could reshape the political landscape in Oyo State.

Inside reports suggest that Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the former Commissioner for Health under Governor Abiola Ajimobi and now the current LAWMA Chairman in Lagos, has been heavily favoured by the President’s camp. Muyiwa, who is also the son of Prof. Gbadegesin from Okeho, played a pivotal role in securing the approval for the establishment of FUNATO (the new Oke Ogun University) in his home village, earning the family considerable recognition within the presidency. Sources confirm that Aso Rock had initially planned to back him as the 2027 governorship candidate for Oyo State.

However, in a twist reflecting the shifting political dynamics, lobbying efforts from high-ranking political figures in Ibadan reportedly led to a change in strategy. According to insiders, the President decided to revise the earlier arrangement following complications surrounding the initial choice, particularly issues linked to traditional rulership status and crowning. The emerging decision is seen as an attempt to preserve party unity while also respecting the growing agitation for zoning across the state.

The revised calculation, though still generating debate within political circles, is widely interpreted as a deliberate move to balance regional expectations. For decades, stakeholders from the Oke-Ogun axis have consistently pushed for greater political inclusion, arguing that the vast region deserves a fair shot at producing the state’s governor.

Amid these developments within the APC, attention has also shifted to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where indications suggest that a similar zoning sentiment may be shaping internal consultations. Political observers note that the PDP may eventually align with the growing consensus by settling for a credible candidate from Oke-Ogun to maintain regional balance and strengthen its electoral chances.

Sources within the opposition party point to the rising profile of Amofin Beulah Adeoye, a respected legal practitioner and grassroots politician from the Oke-Ogun axis, as one of the personalities gaining quiet support among party stakeholders. Reports earlier published by TODAY SPLASH hinted that party leaders have been weighing the strategic advantages of presenting a candidate whose emergence would resonate with the long-standing agitation for power shift to the region.

If the calculations within both major parties eventually crystallize around Oke-Ogun candidates, the 2027 governorship contest in Oyo State could take on a historic dimension — potentially marking the first time the two dominant political blocs openly converge on the same regional zoning principle.

For many residents of the Oke-Ogun corridor, the unfolding scenario is more than political arithmetic; it represents years of advocacy, negotiation, and hope that the region’s voice will finally find full expression at the highest level of governance in the state.
