Akinyele Assembly Seat: Leaders Deny Consensus as Stakeholders Continue Consultations

Political leaders in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State have dismissed reports claiming that a candidate has already been chosen for the Akinyele State Constituency II seat ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to reliable sources within the local political structure, no final decision has been reached regarding the party’s candidate, contrary to claims circulating in some quarters.

Findings reveal that consultations among party leaders and stakeholders are still ongoing, with many emphasizing the need for unity, fairness, and respect for due process before any candidate is eventually agreed upon.

Some of the most respected political figures in the local government, including the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola; former Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Jeleel Adeleke; and elder statesman, Alhaji Gbolagun, are said to be among leaders who have not agreed to any purported consensus arrangement.

Other notable leaders in the local government are also reportedly involved in the ongoing consultations, all aimed at ensuring that any eventual decision reflects the collective interest of the party and the people of Akinyele.

Sources within the political circle disclosed that discussions among leaders have largely focused on sustaining the stability within the party and continuing the developmental momentum of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration in Oyo State.

It was also gathered that some stakeholders believe the current representative of Akinyele Constituency II in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. (Deacon) Olatunde Kehinde, has played a stabilizing role within the legislature and has remained consistent in promoting the policies and programmes of the state government.

These leaders were said to have referenced earlier indications that some second-term lawmakers who have demonstrated strong performance could still be considered for continued service, urging fellow stakeholders to allow the Governor and the party leadership to guide the process before any final decision is taken.

However, the development has also revealed differing opinions among some political leaders in the local government, with another group reportedly supporting a different aspirant for the seat.

Political observers say such differing positions are not unusual in a democratic setting, especially in a constituency where several aspirants have shown strong interest in serving the people.

The contest for the Akinyele Constituency II seat has attracted a number of aspirants, including Hon. (Deacon) Olatunde Kehinde, Victor Olojede, Oluniyi Oladejo, Oludele Adetunji, , and Olalere Solomon, popularly known as Ere.

Amid the unfolding political discussions, stakeholders have called on party members and the public to disregard reports suggesting that a candidate has already emerged, stressing that the process remains open and consultations are still ongoing.

They also reaffirmed their loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde and expressed confidence that the leadership of the party in the state will ensure a transparent and fair process that will strengthen unity within Akinyele Local Government and the wider political family in Oyo State.
