When Politics Turns Against Its Own: Why the Attacks on Adebo Ogundoyin Must Be Questioned

In the last few hours, the political space in Oyo State has been awash with allegations, counter-allegations and deliberate attempts to drag the name of the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, into a narrative that appears carefully crafted to diminish his credibility and weaken his standing.

The allegation that the Speaker accepted money from proxies of the opposition to facilitate the impeachment of Seyi Makinde is not only disturbing but also deeply suspicious in its timing and intent.

As someone who has watched the political trajectory of Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin closely, it is difficult not to see the political undertone behind these claims.

This is a young man who rose from a humble background, a young orphan who found his way into leadership through resilience, loyalty, and service to his people. Since becoming Speaker, he has maintained a steady working relationship with Governor Makinde and has demonstrated remarkable maturity in managing the affairs of the Assembly.

One must therefore ask: who benefits from these allegations?

In politics, accusations are often weapons. When facts are scarce, rumours are manufactured to achieve what direct confrontation cannot.

What is even more troubling is the subtle attempt by certain powerful figures to shape the narrative against the Speaker. The involvement of respected personalities such as Florence Ajimobi and the revered monarch, Rashidi Ladoja, in political conversations surrounding the future of the Speaker raises serious concerns.

While every citizen has the right to political opinions, it becomes worrisome when the political career of a young leader appears to be caught in the web of elite political maneuvering.

The Speaker has already clarified that he rejected any form of inducement and reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Makinde. His statement was clear, direct, and consistent with the relationship that has existed between the executive and the legislature since the beginning of this administration.

If anything, his response should put the matter to rest.

But unfortunately, politics rarely allows truth to travel as fast as rumours.

What Oyo State needs at this critical time is stability, not unnecessary political distractions.

Governor Makinde’s administration has maintained a relatively stable relationship with the House of Assembly, and the leadership of the Speaker has contributed significantly to that stability.

Attempting to create distrust between the Governor and the Speaker only serves those who wish to destabilize the state’s political structure.

Leadership is not always tested during moments of comfort; it is often tested during moments of deliberate provocation.

Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has spoken, and his words reflect conviction, loyalty, and a clear conscience.

As observers and stakeholders in the progress of Oyo State, we must resist the temptation to allow political intrigue destroy the reputation of a young leader whose only crime may be rising too quickly in a space where many believe power should remain in the hands of a few.

Oyo State deserves better than politics driven by vendetta.

The future of our politics must not be built on the destruction of promising leaders.

It must be built on truth, fairness, and the collective interest of our people.
