The National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Bwari, Abuja, has paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Oluwaseun Olufade, as part of its ongoing security study tour to Oyo State.

The delegation, operating under Syndicate 5, is undertaking a study themed “Ethnic Militia and Resource Competition in Africa: Implications on National Security.” During the visit, the team presented an Award of Hospitality to the chairman in recognition of the warm reception and support extended to them since their arrival in the state.

Syndicate 5 comprises participants drawn from various security and paramilitary agencies, including the military, police, Department of State Services (DSS), Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as well as other local, regional, and international security institutions.

In his remarks, Hon. Olufade welcomed the delegation and described Ibadan North as the “heartbeat” of Oyo State, noting that a significant portion of the state’s socio-economic activities is domiciled within the local government.

He commended members of the syndicate for their cultural appreciation, particularly their appearance in Yoruba attire.

The chairman also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for ensuring a secure environment across the state.

He emphasized that his administration maintains a strong and effective relationship with security agencies, describing them as responsive and supportive in addressing local security concerns.

Responding to questions from the delegation, Olufade highlighted the council’s collaborative approach to community security. According to him, monthly security meetings are held with key stakeholders, including security agencies, religious leaders, traditional rulers, traditional worshippers, and market representatives. He noted that this structure has enhanced information flow and contributed to the prevailing peace in Ibadan North.

On youth engagement, the chairman reiterated the importance of productive engagement in curbing social vices.

He acknowledged the efforts of Governor Makinde in youth employment initiatives and disclosed that the local government also supports youths with financial assistance for viable proposals.

He further revealed plans to empower 1,000 youths through various training programmes in the coming months.

The Head of Local Government Administration, Deacon Olabode Abayomi Ajebisi, commended NISS for the visit and the recognition bestowed on the chairman.

He described Olufade as the youngest and one of the most impactful local government chairmen in Oyo State, noting that the area has witnessed sustained peace under his leadership.

The vote of thanks was delivered by a member of the syndicate, which was led by Halima Z. Ibrahim, alongside faculty members Julius Obokhowo and Mukhtar Imam.
