International Youth Day 2026: KSA Calls for Greater Youth Inclusion, Empowerment in Governance

As the world marks International Youth Day 2026, the Allied People’s Movement (APM) Candidate for Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency, Engr. Kolawole Sheu Adedeji, has felicitated Nigerian youths, describing them as the bedrock of national development, innovation, and democratic sustainability.

In a statement released on Tuesday, August 12, 2026, Engr. Adedeji said the theme of this year’s celebration provides an opportunity to reflect on the contributions of young people to nation-building and to reaffirm the urgent need to place youth empowerment at the center of political and economic policy.

Engr Kolawole Adedeji noted that Nigerian youths have continued to distinguish themselves across technology, agriculture, creative arts, education, and community service, despite systemic challenges.

“Today, we celebrate the energy, intellect, resilience, and vision of our young people. You are not just leaders of tomorrow. You are partners in progress today. The future of Ido, Ibarapa East, Oyo State and Nigeria rests in your hands,” he stated.

He commended youths for their growing political consciousness and active participation in governance, stressing that meaningful youth inclusion is no longer optional but a national imperative.

The APM candidate emphasized that for Nigeria to achieve sustainable growth, government at all levels must prioritize quality education, technical and vocational training, digital skills, and access to capital for young entrepreneurs.

He advocated for policies that will reduce unemployment, curb brain drain, and create an enabling environment for youth-led businesses to thrive.

“A nation that neglects its youths mortgages its future. We must move beyond rhetoric to deliberate action — funding education, expanding access to grants and loans, supporting innovation hubs, and creating jobs that match the skills of our young people,” Engr. Adedeji said.

Speaking on governance, Engr. Adedeji called on political parties to open more spaces for young people in decision-making structures, party leadership, and elective positions.

He maintained that youth representation in the National Assembly will bring fresh ideas, accountability, and people-centered legislation that addresses the realities of young Nigerians.

“My aspiration to represent Ido/Ibarapa East at the Federal House of Representatives is driven by the conviction that youths deserve a strong voice in policy making. We need laws that protect your future, budgets that invest in your dreams, and leadership that listens to you,” he added.

Engr. Kolawole Adedeji reaffirmed his commitment to partnering with youth groups, student associations, artisans, and entrepreneurs in Ido and Ibarapa East to drive development.

He pledged to facilitate training programs, mentorship, ICT hubs, agricultural support, and legislative advocacy aimed at creating opportunities and strengthening youth participation in governance.

While celebrating them, Engr. Adedeji charged Nigerian youths to remain focused, patriotic, and solution-driven.

“Shun violence, drug abuse, and divisive politics. Channel your talents to productive ventures. Be the change you want to see. Nigeria needs your ideas, your innovation, and your integrity to build the country of our dreams,” he urged.

He concluded by praying for wisdom, strength, and greater opportunities for Nigerian youths, and expressed optimism that their contributions will shape a more prosperous and united nation.
