As the race toward the 2027 general elections gradually intensifies, fresh political undercurrents are beginning to reshape conversations within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), particularly in Oyo State.

Governor Seyi Makinde is reportedly engaging in a series of discreet but strategic consultations across Northern Nigeria, moves that insiders say could have far-reaching implications for the political direction of both the governor and the Oyo PDP.

According to a reliable source familiar with the developments, Makinde recently held separate high-level meetings with a prominent former Northern governor widely regarded as a strong political force in the North-West. The engagements, described as “deliberate and forward-looking,” are believed to be part of broader alignments ahead of 2027.

In what appears to be a carefully coordinated political itinerary, the governor was also said to have arrived in Abuja on Sunday, where he briefly waited to receive another influential figure a former South-South governor, now a serving senator, who recently parted ways with the PDP for a new political platform.

Both leaders reportedly proceeded on a joint trip to Bauchi State before continuing consultations in the North-West, where discussions are said to have deepened around coalition-building, political realignments, and possible future platforms.

While details of the meetings remain closely guarded, multiple sources suggest that the conversations may not be unconnected to speculations that Governor Makinde could explore a new political path ahead of 2027potentially outside the PDP.

Back home in Oyo State, the situation within the PDP is said to be increasingly delicate. Party stakeholders are closely watching ongoing reconciliation efforts between Makinde’s loyalists and factions aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Insiders hint that the outcome of these internal negotiations expected within days could determine the next major political move in the state. There are already strong signals that a wave of defections by key PDP figures in Oyo may follow if efforts to mend internal divisions collapse.

For now, Makinde’s silence adds to the intrigue. But in Nigeria’s ever-evolving political landscape, such calculated quietness often speaks volumes.
