Wembley, London – Manchester City lifted the Carabao Cup for the eighth time after a stunning performance from 21-year-old Nico O’Reilly, who scored both goals in their 2-0 victory over Arsenal.
O’Reilly, celebrating his birthday weekend, scored two brilliant headers within four minutes to secure City’s triumph at Wembley Stadium. The left-back, who hails from a family of lifelong City supporters, described the moment as “unbelievable” and said it marked a dream weekend.
💬 “It’s an unbelievable feeling to win a final and beat this team. We know how good they are. Now we need to build on it. It will give us good momentum and we’re buzzing from today,” O’Reilly told Sky Sports.
The young star added that seeing the fans erupt as he scored was surreal. “There was a bit of disbelief seeing all the fans cheering like that when I scored those goals and it’s really a good feeling and a great birthday weekend. My whole family came down today. They’re all in the stand, I know they’ll be buzzing and I can’t wait to celebrate with them.”
A midfielder in his youth, O’Reilly has always enjoyed arriving in the box to score. “Since I was a kid, I always played in midfield and I was always arriving in the box and scoring goals. To bring it into the highest level is good for me. It adds goals to my game and it’s a great feeling,” he said.
Manchester City now look forward to building on this victory as they continue their domestic campaign, with O’Reilly emerging as one of the tournament’s brightest young stars.
