In a decisive move to cushion the impact of rising fuel costs, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved a ₦10,000 flat-rate support for workers across the state to ease transportation challenges.

The governor announced the intervention during the YEAP-SAfER support disbursement and stakeholders’ engagement programme, an initiative aimed at empowering youths in agribusiness.

Makinde explained that the transport support is part of his administration’s commitment to sustaining productivity and ensuring that workers are not discouraged from reporting to duty due to the increasing cost of commuting.

According to him, the initiative is designed to provide immediate relief and stability for the workforce amid prevailing economic realities, particularly the hike in fuel prices.

“This support is to assist our workers with transportation and ensure they can continue to go to work without undue stress. Productivity must not suffer despite current challenges,” the governor stated.

Beyond workers’ welfare, the event also marked a major boost for youth empowerment in the state, as 1,000 young agripreneurs benefited from financial grants under the programme. Each beneficiary received ₦1.5 million to expand their agribusiness ventures.

Makinde noted that the investment in youth-driven agriculture is a strategic step towards strengthening food security, creating jobs, and positioning Oyo State as a hub for sustainable agribusiness development.

The YEAP-SAfER initiative, he added, reflects the government’s broader vision of combining economic relief measures with long-term investments in key sectors to drive inclusive growth across the state.
