The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set for a major political gathering this Saturday as no fewer than 7,200 delegates from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT prepare to converge on Eagle Square, Abuja, for the party’s national convention.

Party leaders have expressed strong confidence in a smooth and successful exercise, assuring members that all necessary arrangements have been put in place.

The National Chairman, Prof. Netanwe Yilwatda, represented by Deputy National Organising Secretary Nze Chidi Duru, said the party is fully prepared, noting that while challenges may arise, they are manageable.

“We are ready for this convention. It is not just a gathering, but part of our broader preparation for upcoming primaries and future elections,” he said.

Chairman of the Convention Central Coordinating Committee and former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, also reaffirmed the party’s readiness, describing the event as well-planned despite minor hurdles.

Ahead of the screening of aspirants for national offices, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, who chairs the screening committee, assured contestants of a fair and transparent process guided strictly by party rules and the Electoral Act.

“We will be just, transparent, and guided by the constitution of the party. There will be no bias,” Oyebanji stated.

Other party stakeholders echoed similar optimism. Former Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, said the APC has demonstrated the capacity and unity required to deliver a peaceful and impactful convention.

Senator Uche Ekwunife noted that the convention is part of a broader strategy to position the party strongly for the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence in a resounding victory.

Similarly, former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, assured Nigerians that the convention would exceed expectations, while former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, urged patience with ongoing reforms under the current administration.

Dogara likened the reform process to healing, acknowledging the temporary hardship but expressing optimism about long-term gains.

The exercise will see about 30 aspirants screened for various National Working Committee positions, with the process structured to ensure efficiency and fairness.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, expressed confidence that the opposition would be unable to stop President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from securing re-election in 2027, citing the administration’s achievements and youth-focused policies.

As momentum builds, the APC convention is expected to serve not only as a platform for internal party consolidation but also as a show of strength ahead of the next general elections.
