Fresh controversy has emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan North Local Government of Oyo State, following allegations of internal manipulation, imposition, and disregard for due process in the selection of party representatives.

A party member, Balogun Gaphar Babatunde Ojetola, in a strongly worded statement, accused certain influential figures within the party of undermining internal democracy and promoting what he described as “JAGBA politics”—a system allegedly driven by imposition and self-interest.

According to him, the situation reflects a continuation of internal challenges that previously affected the party’s performance during the last general elections in the state.

Ojetola alleged that an individual previously linked with the handling of election logistics funds has now emerged as a key figure influencing decisions around the selection of National Delegates representing Ibadan North at the party’s forthcoming national convention in Abuja.

Describing the development as “a betrayal of party values and loyalty,” he expressed concern that such actions could further weaken the party’s structure at the grassroots level.

Providing insight into recent party activities, Ojetola stated that the ward and local government congresses were widely regarded as peaceful and successful. However, he alleged that beneath the surface, certain actors worked against the collective decisions reached by party leaders.

He explained that a consensus list of twelve Ward Chairmen, reportedly agreed upon by members of the Apex Leadership in Ibadan North, was duly documented and submitted to the state party secretariat through the Chairman of the Apex Leaders Forum, Alhaji BAO Oladeji.

However, he claimed that after the submission, some individuals, allegedly with the support of a state-level leader, replaced the agreed candidates for Ward 4 and Ward 8 with their preferred nominees.

He further alleged that similar actions were taken regarding the nomination of National Delegates, with the original list reportedly altered and substituted with new names without broad consultation.

Ojetola described these actions as a “serious breach of party discipline and due process,” warning that such developments could erode trust within the party if not urgently addressed.

He, however, acknowledged the intervention of the State Chairman, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, and the State Secretary, Hon. Fatai Adesina, noting that their timely involvement helped to manage tensions at an earlier stage.

Calling on party elders and national leadership to act decisively, Ojetola urged stakeholders to prevent further escalation and protect the integrity of the APC in Oyo State.

“The truth must be told. Those who encourage these actions are not strengthening the party but weakening it from within,” he stated.

He concluded by warning that continued silence over such issues could have long-term consequences for the unity and electoral prospects of the party in the state.
