Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Saturday received an outpouring of sympathy as top political figures, allies, and well-wishers thronged his Abuja residence following the passing of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.

She reportedly died on Friday in Cairo, Egypt, after a period of illness, leaving family, friends, and associates in deep mourning.

The condolence visits come at a time of heightened public interest, as El-Rufai was recently granted temporary release from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), where he had been held since February 18 over allegations of financial misconduct. His release was said to be on compassionate grounds, allowing him to participate in his mother’s burial rites.

Among the prominent figures who paid their respects was former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi. In a video shared online, Amaechi questioned the circumstances surrounding El-Rufai’s release, suggesting political undertones.

Also present was former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, alongside former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, and former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

Their presence, alongside that of many other dignitaries, underscored a moment of unity and shared grief across political lines, as they gathered to console El-Rufai and his family during this difficult time.
