The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has firmly dismissed circulating rumours suggesting that he is plotting to impeach the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Adeola Oloko, the revered monarch described the claim as entirely false, misleading, and a clear distortion of constitutional reality.

Oloko noted that the allegation lacks any logical or legal basis, stressing that traditional rulers do not possess the constitutional authority to impeach elected officials.

According to him, “You do not have to be a former governor or a distinguished senator to understand that a monarch has no constitutional power to impeach even a local government chairman, let alone a sitting state governor.”

The palace further expressed surprise at the wave of conflicting political narratives currently circulating in the public space. The statement referenced a recent claim by former Ayodele Fayose, who alleged a plot by the state government to remove the Olubadan from his throne.

“It is quite intriguing,” the statement continued. “Less than 24 hours ago, a former governor alleged that the state government was plotting to remove the Olubadan. Now, the same Olubadan is being accused of planning to impeach the governor. One begins to wonder — who exactly is misleading the public?”

The palace therefore urged members of the public to disregard the rumour, describing it as baseless speculation capable of unnecessarily heating the political atmosphere in the state.

The monarch reaffirmed his commitment to the peace, unity, and stability of Ibadanland and the entire Oyo State, while calling on political actors and commentators to exercise restraint and avoid spreading unfounded claims.
