Former Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, CP Fatai Owoseni (Rtd), is reportedly set to pitch his political tent with the Accord Party, just days after stepping down from his role in the PDP-led administration.

The development has already begun to stir conversations within Oyo State’s political space, especially as early permutations ahead of the 2027 governorship election continue to gather momentum.

Sources close to the former police commissioner disclosed that consultations surrounding his next political move have reached an advanced stage, with indications that Owoseni may soon formally declare for the Accord Party and obtain the party’s governorship nomination form.

Though neither Owoseni nor the leadership of Accord has officially confirmed the move, insiders within the opposition party hinted that preparations are ongoing for his formal reception in the coming days.

Owoseni, who served as one of Governor Makinde’s trusted allies within the administration, recently resigned from his position as Special Adviser on Security Matters without publicly revealing his political direction.

However, political watchers had long speculated that his resignation might not be unconnected to the shifting political alignments and succession conversations gradually unfolding ahead of 2027.

Before his exit from the administration, the retired Commissioner of Police was widely believed to be nursing governorship ambitions and was seen by many as one of the prominent loyalists within the ruling camp interested in succeeding Governor Makinde at the Agodi Government House.

Sources within political circles, however, suggested that his aspirations may have suffered a major setback following the emergence of another influential figure within the governor’s political structure as the preferred face in the evolving succession calculations.

His expected defection to Accord is now being viewed as a potential boost for the opposition party, which appears determined to reposition itself ahead of the next electoral cycle in Oyo State.

Known for his active role in public security engagements, conflict resolution, and strategic coordination during his time in office, Owoseni remained one of the visible figures within Makinde’s security architecture throughout his service in government.

As political activities gradually intensify across party lines, observers believe his next move could further reshape the political dynamics leading into the 2027 governorship contest in Oyo State.
