The newly elected Chairman of the Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Oyo State axis of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Oloyede Okikiola Joshua, has expressed gratitude to student leaders and stakeholders across the state following his emergence, while pledging to deliver a united and purpose-driven administration.

In a press statement issued from his office, Oloyede described his victory as a collective achievement, attributing it to the support of Students’ Union Presidents, student leaders, and the broader student community in Oyo State.

“This victory is not mine alone. It belongs to every Students’ Union President across Oyo State and the entire student community who believed in this vision,” he said, assuring that their trust would not be taken for granted.

The NANS JCC Chairman emphasized that his administration would prioritize unity, inclusiveness, and effective leadership, with a commitment to improving the welfare, academic development, and overall well-being of students across the state.

He also pledged to maintain a collaborative relationship with the Oyo State Government, noting that constructive engagement would be key to achieving meaningful progress for students.

Oloyede commended Governor Seyi Makinde for what he described as consistent support for youths and students, highlighting the administration’s policies aimed at promoting educational growth and youth development.

While acknowledging the governor’s efforts, he stressed the need for continuous advocacy to secure more opportunities and improved policies for students.

“As Oliver Twist would always ask for more, we will continue to engage constructively for greater support, not out of ingratitude, but in our collective desire to see students thrive,” he stated.

The student leader, however, raised concerns over the role of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Students’ Affairs in the state, noting that its current operations have contributed to divisions within the student community.

According to him, the structure has, in several instances, weakened proper student representation and limited the emergence of credible voices.

He reaffirmed the commitment of his leadership to ensuring that student representation remains independent, inclusive, and reflective of the true will of students.

Oloyede added that his administration would engage relevant stakeholders to address the issue and strengthen unity within the student movement in Oyo State.

He concluded by appreciating all stakeholders for their support and called for collective effort in building a stronger and more vibrant student community.

“Together, we will build a stronger, more vibrant student movement in Oyo State,” he said.

The statement was signed by Oloyede Okikiola Joshua, Chairman, NANS JCC, Oyo State.
