Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo Central Senatorial District have confirmed key consensus candidates for federal constituencies at an ongoing high-level meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde.
The development, which signals a major step in the party’s early preparations for the 2027 general elections, followed extensive consultations among party leaders, elders, and grassroots mobilizers across the district.
At the meeting, Hon. Ojo Sunday Makanjuola (SMATO) was officially endorsed as the consensus candidate for Ògo-Olúwa/Surulere Federal Constituency. His emergence is widely seen as a reflection of his political experience, grassroots influence, and longstanding commitment to party growth.
Also confirmed is Barrister Ṣeun Asamu, who emerged as the consensus candidate for the Ọ̀yọ́ East/Oyo West/Atiba/Afijio Federal Constituency. Stakeholders described his emergence as a strategic choice, citing his professional background, credibility, and strong connection with constituents.
In a similar development, Hon. Toheeb Adegoke was returned unopposed as the consensus candidate for Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, underscoring a rare level of unity and agreement among party stakeholders in the area.
Sources at the meeting revealed that the consensus arrangement was deliberately adopted to foster unity, avoid internal disputes, and position the PDP strongly ahead of forthcoming political contests.
The ongoing stakeholders’ meeting is expected to produce further resolutions as consultations continue across the senatorial district, with party leaders reaffirming their support for Governor Makinde’s leadership and strategic direction.
